This data is processed directly at the “edge” of the network, in the immediate vicinity of the machines. Consequently, the data is not first sent to central servers, as is otherwise common. <\/p>

One example of this is a production facility where any delay could cause critical failures. By using edge computing, the collected data is analyzed immediately. In the event of discrepancies, the system reacts instantaneously\u2014for example, by shutting down a machine before major damage occurs. <\/p>

Autonomous vehicles also benefit from this new type of data processing. These vehicles are equipped with numerous sensors that continuously collect environmental data.
